"Varese can only be called an old field because of its date of birth; otherwise I believe it is a course still capable of hosting major events."
The fact that almost all holes tighten considerably at the 230-meter mark suggests that it is not a “hitters” course and is one of the reasons why, despite the considerable advantages brought by new equipment technologies over the past decade, scores have not dropped as dramatically as on other courses. In addition to the variety of nature in which it is set, Varese offers 18 holes in which there is no duplication; in fact, each hole is completely different from the others.
The course is designed on an already naturally rough terrain, so the main feature is that you will rarely get to play a shot with the ball perfectly level. From the tee also, as there are many dog-legs you have to know how to work the ball in both draw and fade and in some cases know how to give up the drive, so as not to take too many risks and place the ball in the widest spots of the fairway with a 3-iron or wood.

In terms of hitting the green you will play all the clubs available to you in the bag as there is a perfect balance between long, medium and short holes whether you are talking about par 5, 4 or 3. For these reasons, to get good results in Varese you have to, be complete players and have all the shots in the bag!
Advice:
for those having problems with the slice try to recover in time as, the only flaw in the course, all the problems are on the right side of the fairways.
The most difficult hole is definitely hole 16 but the one where you can easily lose more than one shot is hole 4. Some greens are very rough and have very pronounced steps, but, fortunately, they are almost never fast and so it is easier not to run into the hated three putts.
Good game,
